An education is the one of few things an individual can give themselves. It’s empowering, liberating and gives you a new perspective on many aspects of life. Although an education is extremely important–you should never let grades define you.
It saddens me when I turn on the news or see an article on the internet about a young adult committing suicide over stress: from school, from parents setting high expectations or from students worrying about financial obligations because their family simply doesn’t have the resources to support a higher education.
In a way, the school system in the United States is a bureaucracy. Our teachers and professors act as if they have a sense of entitlement to share their knowledge–but at the end of the day, they are required to follow legislation and a specific curriculum designed to distinguish intelligent individuals from the mass.
